Cloudspan

A plateau settlement above the cloud layer, using stone arches, cable lifts and water condensers to connect its scattered terraces.

Cloudspan occupies a high plateau cut by enormous stone arches. Bridges and cable lifts join the habitable ledges, while condensers gather moisture from passing cloud. An asymmetrical double arch makes the city recognisable from the approach.

The high-plateau dancers in One Vibration make this height part of the signal’s reach. The working city lore grows around the practical work behind an elevated settlement: catching water, keeping crossings open and moving goods between ledges. Two small moons belong to its primary visual reference.

Cloudspan’s bridges follow an old maintenance compact: every trading platform owes a shift to the crossing crews. Water collectors maintain the condensers, and bridge stewards manage cargo weight before a lift leaves the lower ledge. Neither task is ceremonial; both keep the city attached to the plateau.

Bridge Market exports condenser mesh and braided load cable. Traders bring precision bearings and seal stock uphill. A lift operator has been concealing wear to keep a lucrative route open, while the crossing steward would close it until the repair is paid for. The market needs the route, but cannot afford a falling load.

People and customs

Plateau dancers and travelling traders share wide bridge markets, stepped ledges and cable-lift landings.

Bridge traffic follows the local crossing steward. Visitors wait for loaded platforms to pass and never interrupt a condenser crew at work.
